Brakes from Autozone?
Those of you who have purchased calipers for your C3's from Autozone, I have a couple of questions. Did they come with the staineless steel sleeves? And were they loaded with the pads or not?
Yes they were stainless sleeved, no they didn't come with pads.
I had to return one front and one rear because the threads on the bleeders were too bad to actually seal with the closed bleeder. Otherwise, a good savings.
My front calipers are from Autozone. Have had them for about a year with no known problems. They also have a lifetime warranty and Autozone is easy with returns under warranty. You can't beat $55.00 each, and they sell performance friction brake pads.

Re: Brakes from Autozone? (shoptek)
I just put them on the front of mine after asking the same question as you. I haven`t got to test them out yet but give me a little time and I will tell you all about them. :yesnod:
I've had a set on the rear for about a year now. When I got them, one of the bleaders had been crossthreaded. I noticed this even before I jacked up the car. Exchanged it without a problem. They have been working just fine.
I've never heard of anyone who was dissatisfied with the calipers from Autozone. A couple years ago Zwede (I think) visited several stores and got his pick of the calipers they had on the shelves. I think he ended up with 4 brand new SS sleeved castings instead of rebuilt units.
For those of you who do have the AutoZone calipers, are they just rebuilt Delco Moraine calipers or what? I would be interseted in saving the money, but don't want to give my cores away if the calipers from AutoZone are not original vette calipers.
Autzone rebuilds whatever a customer turns in as a core. The front calipers I purchased don't have the Delco casting, but I have never had a problem with them. I think it is hit or miss depending on the inventory of the particular store you are at. You can always check the store before you buy for the Delco casting.
I return 6 different calipers before the car ever moved. One of them had a
cracked casting, the others leaked around the piston or the bleeder screw.
They exchanged them no questions asked but after installing 6 junk parts,
They agreed to buy me a set from someone else after many phone callls
to management. :smash:
