Default New 700R4 Oil Pan has Bottom Drain Plug - Interference with Filter?

My new 700R4 Oil Pan (chrome) has a bottom drain plug instead of a side plug. I am concerned the metal plate and the drain bolt itself may be pressing against the trans filter as I have a clearance problem (the pan won't fit against the trans without some 'encouragement'. What else could be interfering? I removed the converter spash pan and moved the trans shifter cable bracket out of the way and dropped one of the exhaust pipes to make the removal/install easier. At this point, the pan is waiting. I had a gasket to replace and decided to go with a shiny pan. Now, I'm probably going to use the old pan unless I can figure out what is getting in the way... Darn, and that new pan looks really sharp too!
