I have a holley red electric fuel pump installed in my 79. It makes a low buzzing noise while operating. It's not really loud or terrible sounding, it just doesn't sound how i would expect it to.
In my 2002 dakota, i can hear the stock electric fuel pump, and it sounds like a high pitched whine more than the low buzzing type noise of the Holley.
Does anyone know if it should sound this way, or does this indicate that i have my setup wrong. I.E. deadheading... or maybe an electrical problem. Sorry if my descriptions of the different sounds suck.
the noise doesn't really bug me. its just the pitch of the noise that worried me. just wondering if it is supposed to sound that way. i don't want to burn up the pump, it took me a while to get it hooked up. :D
dkgrn79,
I am running a Holley blue pump andthe noise is as you discribed. The reason that your Dakota makes a much higher pitch sound is the higher pressure that the FI needs on the Dakota [probably 40psi]. Your red pump is only making 7psi.

If Holley pumps didn't suck they would not be able to get the gas out of the tank. :D My blue pump has 10,000 miles on it and it was used when I go it.
