Back in the day when I had my original 79 3.55 gear yokes got so ground away that it trashed the rear end before I put 50,000 miles on my new car. Then I bought what I thought was the super build with 4.11 richmond gears and custom and hardened yokes. The next problem was posi cases failing about every year or two. I went to Tom's best stuff.
But another item that has never been brought up....... Is the Heavy duty differential cover. I bought one and polished out the inside. It is a beefy unit with substantially bigger thicker casting and spring bolt sizes.
The question is: Does the heavy cover add that much more total strength because I have had Zero problems with big slicks and lot's of HP?

The Muskegon Covers are very good, better then the knockoffs of them that are sold. The main reason for them is the thicker ears so they don't crack like the stock covers do. The flange is thicker as well so the bolt depth should be checked for thread engagement. Beyond that not much more strength. I use a lot of them and think they are the best. Some of the knockoffs I have been sent in the past had issues with the bolt hole placement where I had to mill the covers to allow a socket to fit the bolt.
My ears where cracked on my 75 and a member on here saw a Muskegon Cover for ? i cant remember the price at an Indy swap meet, he called me and i said get it.
Compared to original, yes, it looked bigger/better than what i had, got it installed, no problems.
I have no idea how i cracked the ears.
I suspect the ears get cracked by over-tightening the spring attach bolts. My 69 cover had some "reinforcements" welded to it, and the spare cover I got had bad threads in one of the ears,.....so I bought the Muskegon cover (the word Muskegon is cast into back side of cover). Hopefully the fact that Muskegon is cast into the cover means I got the real thing.....as opposed to the cheaper knockoffs.
