Default Looking for BBC water pump recommendation

OK, here is situation. Running March Performance serpentine setup with Edelbrock 8850 water pump. Investigating speaking belt and discovered that there is play in water pump shaft.

This is Edelbrock pump number 2. First one starts leaking from the weep hole at about 16k miles. No play on shaft. This one has only maybe 5k on it.

Want to stay with an aluminum pump. Also needs to have 5/8" shaft to fit the March Pulley. The Edelbrock also has countersunk screws on the back plate so no issues with my aluminum timing chain cover.

Options:
- Edelbrock 8850. Again. $$$.
- Stewart Stage 2. Reviews on Summit mention that bolts on back plate touch timing chain cover and that centerline of pulley is lower than stock.
- Weiand Team G or Action Plus. Reviews say they leak from back plate.
- Tuff Stuff 1495AC. No reviews out there but I have their PS pump and it works well. Looks like it also has the bolts on the back plate to deal with.

Anybody got any suggestions for a good water pump. Aluminum, 5/8" pilot, short BBC profile and will clear aluminum timing chain cover.

Ok, added some movies. One is of the squeaking noise turning the waterpump by hand. The other is of the play in the shaft. Clicking noises when I move it by hand.

I have had an Edelbrock pump for about 20 years with no problems so I would suggest you might have something else going on. They offer a rebuild service so I had them do mine a few years back when I was changing engines. Cost was pretty reasonable - about the cost of a good replacement pump (if there is such a thing nowadays).

Well, got in touch with Edelbrock tech support. They are moving the rebuild facility so can't so anything for me until March/April.

Trying to get confirmation from Stewart on their pump centerline. Found a thread on Chevelle board that says they lowered the pump axis 3/4". Same comment on pump review on Summit racing. That won't work with my serpentine belt pulleys.

OK, pulled trigger on Stewart Stage 2. Will see how it fits when it gets here. Summit is great on returns if necessary.

I've been using the same stock ZL1 aluminum pump for decades. I think the new number is 19168602 around $200.
