Default Could use some help with distributor .

Hello everyone Sal from ct ,
Not to sure about this hope can help ,
I just rebuild and re installed motor.
No issues , I installed a new carb with electric choke. Said to wire to ignition hot . I figured the shortest places would be hot to distributor , no problem start the car so I can set timing the terminal falls off the choke grounds out and burned , shut the car off I cut the burned wire off now car doesn’t fire up . I checked the hot wire going to distributor it’s ground with ignition off turns hot when ignition is on checking it unplugged from distributor . Is that normal or is it shorting out , but why does it turn hot with ignition on . Can someone shine some light on this please

First of all the choke should be connected to IGN terminal in the fuse box not the distributor.
Your profile says 2002 so if this is really a C3 do you have an HEI or points distributor.
Do you have power at the distributor with the key in run position and when cranking?

Can you post some photos and the year?

1980 was the first year GM put an electric choke in a Corvette. They used a relay to do so. They did NOT use a relay for the window switches, which handle 20 Amps. Some on this forum have added electric choke circuits through oil-pressure switches, to ensure they only run when the engine runs.

Anyway, check all of your fuses, and also check your starter extension harness (if equipped), as the fusable link(s) on that can fry and fray.

If I had to guess, you fried your HEI module, which is fairly cheap and easy to replace, but that's assuming you have an HEI distributor.

Wiring diagrams here, or PM @papawana for a copy.

Yes I figure I possibly fried the module , cheap fix ,
but why do I have resistance on the hot wire going in , did it happen by me shorting it with the choke wire ,
Can I just run a new hot ignition wire ? To it

Yes you can...but MAKE SURE it is 12 ga wire.....the hot to the HEI "BAT" post draws a bit of current and needs a 12ga wire going to it.

I just read my ign. hot wire unplugged from the dist. It reads 5 ohms which is a capacitor in the circuit. You must have fried the module.
