Default Blinker and gauge light problems

Hello,

Long time forum reader here, first time poster. I am in the process of restoring a 79 L82 (24K miles), a little at a time. I just replaced the heater core, gauge lights, speedo cable, tack board and flexible circuit board. I got everything back together and am now having problems with my driver's side blinker and driver's side tail light, but only when my headlights are on.

When the headlights are on, both rear lights and the side marker lights work fine, but my driver's side blinker doesn't work. When I turn the blinker on, the driver's side tail light goes off.

When the headlights are off, the driver's side blinker works, but it blinks slower than normal. There are no problems with the passenger side tail light or blinker.

I also just noticed that my gauge lights are not coming on. They came on a few days ago, before I had my dash put all back together, but now nothing.

Any ideas what could be causing this, or where I should begin in an attempt to track it down?

Forgot to mention that I checked my bulbs and they work.

Did you connect the ground wires to the tach and speedo? Did you replace each bulb in its correct hole based on it’s wire color? Could the turn single indicator be in the wrong hole? Ensure that the Harmonica Connector located on the steering column is ok. Did
you remove the headlight switch wire plugs, make sure the connectors or seated correctly, I did mine wrong and had no gauge lights,
had to take dash apart again, UH. See what transpires when you pull the Hazard Button. Did you replace the turn signal flasher relay (there are two)?

All good advice above,
Pay close attention to the front side marker lights.
The little loop wires sometimes need to be pulled away from the glass to make good contact in the socket.
I always reset these when I pull or replace a bulb.

Had the similar problem on my 78. The fix was to meticulously clean (I used emery cloth) both the male connector ends but more importantly the female ends on the harness and the extensions that go to the lights. The female end has a slit that will just take a folded piece of emery cloth. Use a side to side sliding action and the female contacts brighten right up.

I think this is the problem. Fortunately, the tack and speedo are easy to remove in the 79.
