Default 77 Corvette

Bought a 77 and noticed that the power steering pump was missing... I bought a pump and was told that the 6 in. pulley was standard for that year. I installed the pump with that pulley and noticed that the pulley is so close to the cross member that I cannot get the belt between the pulley and the framework.. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jackb

Loosen ps pump bracket mounting bolts enough to move the pump/pully and feed belt onto pully. Re-tighten.

Did you check if the power steering control valve, ram, and ram bracket are still on the car?

The bottom pump bracket was still there and I picked up the bracket that adjusts the tension,,, Not sure what the control valve would do as far as the clearance to get the belt on? Let me know what that would do...Thanks...

If you have a incorrect pump (Longer Shaft) it could extend out far enough so there would be interference with the cross member.
When you installed the new pulley did you install it so the pump shaft and pulley end are flush?
Just looked at my 77 and I still have about 1-1/4" of adjusting slot remaining in the bracket. I use the Dayco USA made belts.
I have about 1/2" clearance from the edge of the cross member to the face of the pulley.

So snaking under the alternator this angle would be from just above the pump under alternator.

Doesn't look like you have much room to slip a belt in either... I guess I will loosen up the pump to get it in... Hopefully I don't have to change it often!
Thanks for your help and patience with me and the photos!
Your Vette looks great... My 68 was the same color..

Your correct, not much room.
And your brackets are like these?

Bottom one is the same.. The top one to adjust the belt tension is a little different.

Just changed the belt on my 74 today.. theres the one bolt towards the top of the pump in the rear that you need to loosen and then it pivots giving you room to slip a belt on and off.

Didn't realize there was a bolt on the back of the pump that would allow more movement.. Will check it out in the morning.. Thank you!

Almost feel like putting a washer between the motor mount and the block to bring it up a bit to make room for the belt if nothing else works...

Default Power steering pump adjusting bracket

I ordered a new adjusting bracket and I have the same problem as before. See where the end is suppose to mount to the block? There is @ 1 in. or more space between it and the block.. Not sure what's gingon here? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance...
