Default JEGS Vortec Top End Kit

Has anyone used this kit before? https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/514170/10002/-1

What kind of power are you seeing in either the stock L48 or L82 with headers and true dual exhaust?

It appears to be a great bang for your buck, but I am Leary of the low price.

Seems good for vortec heads, if you go for it let us know.

As far as hp / tq numbers, budget builds aren’t too likely to wind up on a dyno for testing, maybe jegs has some numbers

other questions: what carb is recommended and will it (or stock) clear the hood?

Probably a mild cam you need more info. . Vortec heads don't take much lift without some work

The cam in this kit is comparable to an L-82 camshaft....224/224@.050 .465/.465 on a 114......it is a mild performance grind and does everything right....good idle, good power. The heads are rated for .475 lift....kinda close on the rating, getting close to the max.......but it should work.....it would have to be mocked up if I were doing it before the engine was assembled.
The Jeg's intake flows well, unsure about quality. I would use a Holley 0-90670 Truck Avenger carb on this and a nice set of long tube headers.
I wonder why it comes with pushrods as that is something that needs to be checked.......
The whole list of parts with links is available if you scroll down.
This setup would make somewhere in the neighborhood of 360-370 horsepower on a dyno.....about 300 to the tire. As powerful as an 70-72 LT-1 through headers.......
Actually a nice combo but too many unknowns here and I am not huge on Vortec heads......

The Cam powerband 2200-5200 would concern me if you had an Auto Trans. Your TC stall is 1600-1800.

I'd like a 1..6 rocker but with the vortec heads would require machining and different pushrods.
I never was a big fan of vortec heads either but I know people like them .
