Hey All,
I'm replacing the broken Door Latch Handle Assembly and found that the lower Access Panel is missing. Is this something I need to worry about replacing? If so, where can I get one? I found that several places are selling an Access Panel Gasket, but no Panel.
Also, the vapor barrier is missing. Should I get the plastic sheet or the new thin foam sheet? Or maybe even the Dynamat piece?$?
Thanks,
John
You should be able to find a used access panel by ringing one or more of the Corvette wreakers. yes you should have a moisture barrier. the original plastic sheet works fine to keep the water off the door panel. foam may help a tad with noise. Dynamat may cause some trouble re-fitting the door panel.
That plate is a dust cover. Look at your window spring i would clean that up with new grease and then buy some flexible adhesive and attach a piece of 6 mill poly to door and call it a day! O Reilys has some red door grease for door hardware. and windows to roll up with ease . I used it and it saved me from tearing the inwards of door apart when i had hard cranking of my drivers window,
Throw a WTB post up for the access panel. There were, literally, hundreds of thousands manufactured.
4-vettes is correct that the plastic is a moisture barrier. You definitely want to have that to protect the fiberboard that is the backbone of the door panel. Go to your local Home Despot/equivalent and buy some 3 mil poly. 3M makes many double sided tapes. Check out their website.

and use this to hold it (even cheaper at hardware)
Like the guys are saying,,,, a good time to go over ALL of the parts inside the door. I had the same door handle break, the replacements are very good. I used Butyl sealant tape to attach the liner. You can find it on amazon. Maybe even adjust the window so it closes better.
