Hi, Getting a fresh sbc in my 71 convert and back on the road and have a problem with headers. They came with the car (don't know which brand) but they are 1 5/8" long tubes with oval ports. Fit great in the car and around my Borgeson box. Heads are ProMaxx 2169s with a square exhaust port and straight plugs.
Knew it could be a problem, so tried a Proform thick aluminum exhaust gaskets but they have square ports. Got it running and have exhaust leaks on several of the cylinders. The oval shape of the headers doesn't reach fully into the corners of the square gasket.
Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, is there another gasket I can try before dropping $$ on a set of square port headers? If I need to go that route, any recommendations for reasonably priced headers?
