Default Radiator Plug - '70

I went to replace coolant but the plug on the bottom of my '70 radiator is a bit concerning. Im afraid to torque on it as I think it will crack the bottom of the radiator. Its impossible to get a wrench on the square nut where the plug screws into. Is the best option to take off the neighboring hose? Or, do I just remove the entire plug that screws into the radiator? Here are some pics of what I am looking at.

You use an open end wrench or vice grip on the fitting and a box wrench or socket on the plug. When you apply pressure on the plug to loosen it you use counter pressure on the fitting to stabilize it.

You can always syphon the coolant out of a C3 radiator, I have done this several times.

I didn't have a lot of luck with my 70' plug it ripped right out so "new radiator" it is.
#3 post is a smarter move.

Same here, haven't use the drain plug for years. I use a hand pump and tube setup I made and drop it right into the radiator and suck it dry. I refill through the T-Stat housing.

I pulled the lower hose on mine but I also needed to swap my waterpump out for the rebuilt original.

Yeah...as weak as that looks I'd just loosen the radiator hose and drain it there. If you are up to it then pull that radiator and put in a better drain plug of some non-corrosive material. That plug is looking like some sort of regular steel?
