I have a real nice Dart SHP block based build, using callies compstar forged crank, forged H beam rods, SRP forged pistons, a custom grind comp cam, and timing chain. (short block) for $5000.00
I used a local place here in the Las Vegas area, Insane power. Everyone Ive talked to has nothing but good things to say about the shop. And Im very happy with my build.
By the time I added my AFR heads and T&D shaft rockers, roller lifters, new oil pan to fit the SHP block, oil pump, valve covers, push rods etc. I was right at 10k. I did this engine 3 yrs ago
Its a nice little 434 cu in engine. Now sporting an edelbrock pro flow 4 E.F.I. That was extra, but oh it runs flawlessly.
I was on the fence about just dropping in an LS based engine, I had an LS3 in my Camaro and they are a great engine. But the first gen sbc looks at home in the engine bay, and with over 500 rwhp, a 373 r&p and a TKO 5 spd, Ive got a pretty solid build. Lets put it this way, nail it in 2nd from a roll and it frys the tires. Even a 3rd gear shift can break em loose. More power and torque than the light weight car really needs. Anyway, if you look around you may be able to find a local guy who will give you a similar build.
That is about where I am at with building a motor for my 671 blower shp block or a dart little m block scat crank h beam rods .
.....BluePrint makes a good street SB427 crate motor with forged parts, I have pulled a few down and checked them, they are assembled correctly and to spec......
I decided to go with a BluePrint 400CI dressed long block. At the end of the day, it makes 500+ hp and with the savings I can upgrade the drive-line.
Thanks to all for the advice, suggestions and direction.
I think blue print build some good engines for what they are attended for ,not for bracket racing or road racing. I plan on using the 396 engine in my 69 for auto crossing and street fun .
Everyone has a favorite shop. I have raced on many levels in NHRA and at the salt flats. The guy that has supplied my engines for years is semi-retired and his race shop has gone from 8 people to just himself doing special projects and unusual stuff. The competition Elimamatior engines.I leased from him were all killer bullets, Chevy Splayed valve V6, and small CID small blocks all turning over 10,500 rpms. I just got back into corvettes after selling my 71 big block roadster 15 years ago. I bought a 1980 and I am not going to go the LS route. I went to Al Weiss at the Auto Shop in Wichita Falls Texas and he put me together with a nice 496.Big Block. His attention to detail is incredible and the engines look like they should for a restoration project up to and including the correct overspray on 100 point car deals. here are pictures of my engine in progress. The intake manifold is just too dyno with to break in the motor, I'm really looking for a tri-power set up. The inline 6 is for a 53 or 54 and his personal supercharged Nissan 350 Z stroker motor

I just left the engine out on this car with Al, it was a 383 with a lot of nice parts. I had no clue the engine was hidden in this car. Looked stock, it has Dart 200 heads a forged 3.75 internal balance crank, Scatt rods and JE forged pistons. The number 5 pistons had lost the ring lands. I guess some one didn't know that at 10.5 to 1 you need good fuel. Attachment 48337897 Attachment 48337898 Attachment 48337899 Attachment 48337900
