700R4 shifting 2-3 sloppy
It shifts very solid and consistant in all gears except the 2-3 shift. This shift is a little sloppy with a 1/2 second delay which allows the engine RPM to rev up if you are getting on it pretty good. If you baby it, the shift is still a slight delay but the engine RPM wont rev up. It is always consistant though in how it does this 2-3 shift.
Does this sound like something that a shift kit could fix?
I have heard that you should not put a shift kit in a 700R4 as this will usually send it to an early grave. I have also read that you should put in the Corvette servo etc.. parts that will increase the line pressure to allow precise shifting.
If the tranny shifts great in the other grears but sloppy in just one, it seems to me the line pressure should be OK.
Any thoughts on this from 700R4 guru's would be appreciated.

The term shift kit has been bandied about rather loosely. No, you should not put a B&M-style shift kit in there. But you should consider a TransGo shift kit, which is designed to address the weaknesses of a transmission like the 700r4. Some TransGo kits merely improve the tranny; other kits made by them also make the shifts firmer.
Hopefully somebody that really knows what they are talking about will chime in.
I had this problem with a 700R that I had. To many passing gear kickdowns. I was told that the 3rd gear clutch pack (I think that was what it was called) was bad. I know they make heavy duty guts for these transmissions.
Long story- short is the trany needed overhauled. This is a common problem with the stock 700's.
Sorry no good news from me
