I have a 383 that was recently rebuilt and I noticed a ticking and what feels like a light miss at all points of acceleration. I attached a shop vac to the exhaust and checked for leaks and found many. My exhaust is leaking at the manifold and at the pipe on at least one side. Apparently I did a poor job with that part of the install.
So I'm going to replace those gaskets in the coming weeks. While I'm finding the time to do that, I'm curious to know if these leaks could be causing my performance issues. I know they could be the source of my tick (fingers crossed) but I'm not sure what else a leak can cause and was curious if anyone had any information. I would love to think that I just found the cause to all of my issues, but really won't be able to know that until I correct the problem. In the mean time, knowing that exhaust leaks COULD cause these problems will at least give me hope.
an exhaust leak can theoretically cause a miss if it leaks long enough to burn an exhaust valve. let's hope this is not the case. chrome bumper car. still q-jet carb and points? compression test too. a rebuilt engine can have a lifter set too tight causing lots of bad stuff...
