Long story short, previous AC belt got stuck on compressor and snapped. I'm not sure if it seized up or not. (Previous owner upgraded compressor)
Picked up a new belt to install but can't figure out how to get it around the power steering. I don't want to just start unbolting things. I have a Chitlon manual but it doesn't give me clear instructions. See image/video...
We are hoping to surprise/lend nephew with it for prom tonight but I'm stuck. Thanks everyone!
Helpful to post year etc.. any mods or all factory...obviously compressor not original..
Are you saying that compressor seized? Pull clutch wire for now...
I looked at your profile, no car information in there as well. pretty easy on most small blocks, but helps to have car on ramps to loosen the forward and rear mounting bolts on the power steering pump. If he needs the car tonight, surely he can live without air-con. If the belt blew you may have bigger troubles than just a belt, but maybe not. get back to us with a few more details and we will walk you through belt replacement.
73 small block 350.... previous owner upgraded to R-134(?) Compressor. Was able to loosen the power steering and got the belt to fit. He originally put a 57 3/4" belt on it with the rocker completely zeroed out towards the engine. Replaced with a 58 15/16" belt and rotated the rocker out. When all belts we are tightened down we started it up. All was well until...we turned on the AC and the clutch engaged seizing it up. Looks like I'll be looking at a new compressor. Only have it for two weeks and things and falling apart

pull clutch wire and replace belt and drive it, repair as you go...i FIRMLY believe diyac is the wayto go if a diy person..equipment new is still cheaper and you will know done right..that looks likea good compressor too bad...onequick indicator would be orifice inspection...or find a good shop

I'm fairly new to this whole diy when it comes to the newer equipment. However I'm willing to learn and get the experience, another reason why I went with an older model, no computer to fight. By pulling the clutch wire, will the AC still work? What even is the purpose of having a clutch in the AC compressor?
