I ordered a Painless Wiring 12 circut harness. I'm using Autometer gauges throughout the car. My only concern is the wires and headlights since they are both vacuum actuated. and have to use the existing harness for them.
havent done this yet but I was planning on doing this in the future. I was planning on running the #20102. Its says it mounts through the firewall on a couple '60's GM's so it looks like it will work nicely.
The vacuum hose routing and the physical wiring for the headlamps are completely separate items. The only thing they realyl share is the actual headlamp switch in the dash, which is a combination electrical switch and valve. I was able to take my wiring harnesses (they are several sections, for example the bulkhead connector at the firewall sperates the forward lamp harness from the engine portion) and carefully clean, inspect and repair/replace connectors, followed by a complete re-wrap in that harness tape that Eastwood has. (no glue, almost like wrapping handlebars on a bike) However, if you see serious cracking of insulation or coroded wires, I would consider replacing sections or the entire setup with correct replacements. Universal types are great for customs and street rods, but will only give you increased headache in a 'Vette, just my .02. If your harness has been "modified" by various individuals over the years, I would also replace it. Even though mine was salvagable, I sometimes regret not replacing because I know I'll have to do it someday anyway.
Corey, on my '72 there, the engine/main power harness is in the inboard section of the two piece bulkhead block, the lighting is on the outboard section....that simplifies stuff a whole lot....
the under dash wiring is another matter, and involves much duplication due to GM's hurried/harried designs....the routing is amazingly silly, much can be eliminated....but it takes time and electrical know how....I found the worst of the project was sitting on boards and buckets inside the car leaning over working on the wires....but over several months, I got it done.....last winter...
How much was this and what all is involved in the conversion?
Are you talking about the re wiring or the head light conversion. I haven't looked into the the old bills yet, but will do that after the project is finished, but I think by doing the electrics from scratch I saved few bucks, plus I got to do lot of custom stuff, like I mounted the fuse box and all relays in the storage box behing passenger seat. I also modernised the system a bit. However if you ment the headlights, you should take a look at here: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...threadid=18214
Like Twin Turbo guessed it's the 69MyWay's kit and it uses C4 motors with custom made brackets. The kit goes for 695$.
