'81, is the wiper fluid reservoir vacuum operated or electric? I have a small crack in the plastic at the filler neck. If vacuum, could that be the source of a short, faint, sssss sound when I shut down?
There is no seal between the reservoir and the filler neck. The bottom of the neck slips into the reservoir and fluid will leak out, if filled above the reservoir. There is a motor at the bottom of the reservoir. I just replaced mine, and it was very corroded, most likely from overfilling the reservoir.
Most likely you have a vacuum leak from something else. The charcoal canister is located directly below the reservoir and one of the hoses or hose connections could be leaking. The cruise control transducer is located next to the reservoir, and a vacuum hose connected to it, could be leaking.
