I have looked through previous threads that talk about this connector. They always lean toward the lighter but I don't think that is correct. I believe it is the instrument light feed to the auto shift indicator. Can anyone confirm? My car is a manual but did the factory install one harness with the feed wire there for autos and on a manual you would have this connector to mess with your brain trying to figure out where it goes? They probably had a couple of beers and laughed about it.
Can't tell from your photo's the color of the wire going to that connector.
That connector is the correct shape for the PRNDL lamp connector - if it has a purple wire with a white stripe then that'd be correct.
The assembly manual under UPC M40, sheet A4 shows the location of the connector and this pretty closely matches the location of the one in the picture. I am going to go with it is for auto cars and not used for manuals unless you are looking for a instrument light feed for something you are adding to the car.
