Default Fuel pump question

Hi,

I have a question related to the fuel pump... it's for a 1970 small block (Rochester carb)... I am under the impression that an original fuel pump looks like the picture below... but someone is telling me that an original pump would be held together (upper/lower portion) by screws... much like the 2nd picture below which is a picture of a 63-66 fuel pump (just showing this one as an example where it's being held by screws, I know it's not for a 1970)... Can someone tell me if the pump just below is in fact an "original" (back in the day) fuel pump for a 1970 where the upper/lower portion is not held together by screws? Thanks.

The rolled seam is what was on my 71. I have only seen the bolt together ones on aftermarket pumps.

I think the bolt together fuel pumps ended around 1966 or 1967 after that they were crimped or rolled seam pumps.

On a sidebar if you look at the top pick you will notice that there is no pin going through the pump for the pump arm pivot. THe bottom one has the pin just above the mounting hole on the picture. THis is where the new cheap pumps are failing. Dont buy a carter pump, you will be sorry

1966 was the last year for the the "rebuildable" pump......
If you buy a 70' spec pump.....make sure it fits and buy another and write that number down. Local Auto Parts can downright **** one off when it comes to getting the correct one, so have one on the shelf...they are cheap.
