Default 68 convert windows

Windows crank up a bit tight but not looking forward to removing the windows and tracks to lube. Can the tracks be lubed in place and can the weather stripping be replaced without removing the window?

I know you can lube /grease the pivot points and sliders while the glass us in place by craning the window up or down as needed to reach the tight areas.

The main thing is to FIRST remove all the old grease/lube/CRUD that has collected on the parts.

Then make a long swab/"Q-tip" to reach/lube the areas your fingers cannot get to.

As for new weatherstrip....I'm guessing you would have to lower the bottom Stop so the glass would crank low enough to be able to replace/repair the wiper/anti-rattle weatherstrip.

Thanks for the tips. Looking at the tracks I decided to pull out the glass and tracks to clean and lube. The rollers on the regulator and window have seen better days. Thinking Corvette Central for the rebuild kits?
Also, I’ve seen reference to anti rattle window parts in a 69 post, but I don’t see them on my 68 or in the AIM. Did 68 have anti rattle window parts?

good. i was gonna say the windows and regulators come out pretty quick and these bolts are not prone to rusting in.

No, 68’s did not have the anti rattle parts that 69’s came with.

I see the door frame has the holes for the anti rattle parts. When folks rebuild the 68 doors and windows, do they typically add these parts?

My 68 is a January build and the doors don’t have the holes for the anti rattle cushions like in the 69.

My 68 is a Sept 67 build and has unused holes outside the top vertical window track bolt holes. I saw a 69 window removal thread that showed pictures of these locations. I assumed the 68 and 69 door frames didn’t change and they just didn’t install anti rattle parts in 68?

This is the best picture I could find that shows the inside of the door. There are six holes for the inner seal and four holes for the window tracks. There are not two additional holes for the anti rattle cushions.

when they stop installing something, the location frequently is still visible. if they haven't designed it yet i really doubt a mount location will be visible. i don't think they knew they need anti-rattle plates until people brought them in to fix the rattle...

My bad...I have the interior window weather strip off and mistakenly thought the 2 end holes were unused and could have been for anti rattle parts.
Thanks for the picture, it not only confirmed those holes purpose but showed me my driver door weather strip needs to be replaced. It’s different than the passenger side and missing that top piece that closes the gap between the end of the window and the convertible top. This car has been through a few hands and some of them were butchers. I’ll keep working on bringing back to original.
Your car looks nice.... is it Corvette Bronze with that black interior? Mine is Corvette Bronze with the tobacco interior. I just finished the interior restoration.
Where’s your console vent *****? That part was a bitch to fix on mine.

Yes, it is Corvette Bronze with the black vinyl interior. The trim tag is 992 paint code and STD for the interior. Mine doesn't have the vent ***** because it is a factory AC equipped car.

New question, same subject.
How many window stops are there? The AIM points to 2 at the top (front and back), and 1 at the bottom back.
I have only took apart the driver side and only found 2 total....but like previously mentioned many butchers had their hands on this car before me.

I had to go and look at mine, but I was able to see two stops on the top with the window rolled down. It’s been a while since I had mine apart, but I think there are two at the bottom as well. Maybe you’re missing some parts.

Not missing...just miss placed. I checked the passenger side, there are 2 on top and 2 on the bottom.
