Default Help! hood prop attachment

Hey Guys, So I realized that at some point my hood prop brace point has been damaged. The entire rivets and brace bolt support inside the hood are missing! Since this is the original early 69 hood I would like to repair it. My thought was to cut out a section of the underside channel and bond in a piece that has the bolt plate and rivets intact. Will this work?? If so, Does anyone know where I might find a section of this underside surround and what type of bonding agent should I use? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I would love to save this hood. Thanks, Dan

Of course I had to take a look at mine after seeing your post. Here is a picture that may give you some ideas. It looks like there were two mounting points. This particular hood was for a 1973-75 base 350 car and and I believe is aftermarket. Good luck!

i don't think the plate bonded to the glass is that big a thing. i think the plate in place with the support on the other side clamping the 2 to the hood is the real strength. if you could find or fab a support plate with the 2 threaded holes, either nuts welded on or 3/8 or so plate with the 2 holes tapped, then cut a slot and feed it in and bolt it in place. then a couple of sheet metal screws or epoxy ahead of time or both and the plate will stay put when you disconnect the support. just have to glass up the slot you cut to install the plate. you know, it would hard for that plate to leave. have you tried shaking it to see if it works loose and slides around inside the hood?

If originality isn't a concern, get a piece of 1 x 0.125 flat aluminum. Drill 4 holes, 2 to match the hood support and 2 to mount to the hood. Drill 4 holes in the hood to match the plate. Install 2 rivnuts into the outer holes in the hood and 2 into the plate for the support. Bolt the plate to the hood and bolt the hood prop to the plate. Painted to match the hood and it wouldn't be that noticeable.

I did something like that for the lower bracket where the fiberglass cracked at the fender mount.

Thanks 3x2 Ultimately originality is my concern but I think for keeping it working something like what you are talking about here will work fine.

So, yea; seems like at one point when I had the hood off I remember hearing something sliding around in there. Not sure if I ever got it out or not. Seems like what you are talking about will be as good or better than original. Just won't look right. Thanks for your help here.

so you can hear the piece inside the hood. open the 2 bolt holes and slide it back and forth. you will probably be able to fish it into place so the 2 thread holes are where you need them. get the bolts threaded. drill a hole between the bolt holes where the prop covers it. squirt some epoxy in. clamp the bolts tight. justa likea new...
