All,
my 2000 corvette began having the problem of slipping gears as accelerating and then the check engine light came on. I took to our local Chevrolet dealership who determined we were in need of a new transmission. I wish I'd researched it further back then but I was rushed and as they say "hindsight is 2020". It has been at least 3-4 months and two new transmissions later we have solved nothing. I was told that they now feel that the wrong differential was put in at some point? Mind you the car has 21,000 miles. They say that someone put in 342 gears ( manual trans compatible) instead of the 315 which should have been put in for the automatic transmission. Honestly at this point i don't remember this being done but it is possible after a friend had some repairs done.
In any case the car has been in their hands for months now and they are searching for the 315 gears that so far they can't find. This tech is above my hobby pay grade and at this point I'm not sure they know what the heck is wrong. Any help or suggestions will be welcome including helping find the gears!
I think you would get a better response if you posted this in the C-5 section. That said, the transmission in my son's 2000 with over 125K miles went south a few months ago. We use a local transmission shop that actually rebuilds the box in house. My son's transmission had a planetary gear go south. The shop replaced the gear, clutches and torque converter. I think the job cost about $2500 and was completed in a few days. I have used the shop for about 30 years for my fleet vehicles. The shop is in Tampa. Where in Florida are you located? Jerry
Thank you, I did not notice i'd hit the wrong year! This was a big help and I thank you. I thought about going elsewhere but the put in a GM Trans and if I go beyond GM they will void he warrantee... Do you mind telling me the name of the shop as i might reach out with the problem anyhow.
