78 proportioning valve/distribution block question
My 15 year old Son bought a 1978 Corvette as his first car. This will be a Father/Son project.
The previous owner replace all the calipers, pads, and rubber brake hoses. The car has brakes and stops well. The pedal is firm, but goes almost to the floor, and the brake warning light is on in the dash. The master cylinder is full and I do not see any obvious leaks. I opened the bleeder valves and get fluid to all four wheels.
When I disconnect the warning light switch at the proportioning valve the dash light goes out. I have removed the valve, cleaned and reinstalled. With the valve mounted and no brake lines connected the warning light is on.....when I connect all the brake lines and stomp the pedal a few times the pedal is firm, but the light stays on......
Do I have a bad valve, switch , or just don't know the correct to reset the valve?
THANKS for any and all help and comments.

Centering the valve:
The 'stomp on the pedal' works most of the time but you can hold pressure on the brake pedal and open a front bleeder and if that doesn't work, crack open a rear bleeder while under pressure.
Switch that turns Brake Warning Lite On when there is pressure failure in the front brakes or the rear brakes....
Removable seat (same on other end of block)........
Symmetrical valve/piston...when it moves off-center the dash warning lite turns on...either the front brake subsystem is blocked OR the rear subsystem is blocked to prevent the master cylinder from losing fluid in both bowls......
It also will prevent you from bleeding the brake system completely when it is offcenter.
(What you see has been "cleaned"..the pieces were so gunked up it was hard to identify each piece or even see the o-rings).
The O-rings were like new and sealed well once I scotch-brited the bore.
I completely cleaned everything and recentered the piston/valve before reassembling the parts.
