The serpentine belt on my 75 LS6 conversion is slowly sliding forward on the idler pulley. I found it in this condition after driving it for roughly 100 miles while tuning in the engine. I have the C5 accessory set up with the high alternator and power steering pump and maybe my power steering pulley is a bit too far forward, could that be causing this?
The crankshaft pulley is the starting point.
Remove the belt.
Place some sort of long straight-edge COMPLETELY across the crankshaft pulley face.
Then.....use the top end of the straight-edge to individually check each face of the pulleys, including idler pulley to see if each of them is flush with the crankshaft pulley.
(a pulley can also be "out of toe" even if it looks reasonably flush---which would cause the belt to "walk off" the idler pulley)
Let us know what you find.
The PS pulley was about a tenth of an inch too far forward based on my straightedge measurements, so I brought that in line with a bit of cranking on the pulley bolt and will drive it a bit to see if it stays in place.
I had to make one more little adjustments for everything to lineup correctly and that is I had to shim the tensioner with a washer on both bolts to get it to line up correctly and how it looks pretty much perfect and there’s no squealing.
