Pulled the windows and tracks off and found the rollers to be difficult to turn. I cleaned and lubed them, but they still didn’t turn smoothly. I assumed they should function like roller bearing, so I purchased new ones from Corvette Central. When they arrived they were worse than my original ones in terms of turning.
Are these rollers supposed to function like bearings, or are they just guides to move the window and regulator arms inside the tracks?
I believe they are guides as they fit tight into the track, so iam not sure there would be any turning action. I recently did my 69 window tracks- came out great, cleaning off old grease and lube is key.
I believe you are correct. I called Corvette Central and they indicated the rollers function more as guides then bearings. To me this is absurd, if they functioned as bearings it would greatly aid in the window movement. To me it seems the ball inside the roller is a bit too large. Anyone ever take the roller apart and sand that ball down?

I'm guessing GM didn't plan on these cars being around 50+ years.....and stiff rollers wearing flat spots on the diameter from failure to turn.
I reused all but ONE of my original rollers. The new roller was stiff.
I spun on the ball joints easily/cleaned the old grease off and applied new grease (It takes very little if any grease when the rollers actually roll..it seems the grease only attracts dust/but we are grease=oriented mechanics)
. The windows are as smooth as can be.going up/down/no rattles.
I adjusted everything snugly in the tracks..."rolling rollers" ae the best
I ended up using the original rollers (for the glass and regulator) as they weren’t in bad shape and spun better than the new ones after I cleaned them with thinner. Replacing the regulator rollers would have required too much work and the new ones were taller than the original ones (I saw a thread on this issue in the forum) and I didn’t need the problem. The real key is cleaning the rollers and tracks thoroughly and using some white lithium grease (spray and tube). It moves much easier now, maybe even meets the AIM spec.
Aligning the window was a bitch…no matter how many how to’s you read.
Now on to the passenger side. Hopefully those rollers are in similar shape.
