Went out to the garage to fire it up this afternoon. When I threw the switch, there was an immediate "snap" followed by loud clattering and the sound of metal on metal  I immediately shut it off and started tearing it down to see what the damage was. When I got access and could see the crankshaft, I saw two broken rods just hanging from the crank, with the pistons and remaining rods hanging in the bores. :cry
I've already ordered the replacement parts to replace every moving part and seal in there. The whole rebuild will come in at just over $130 and about an hour of labor. Then she'll be as good as new for many more years of service.
Oh, I forgot to mention, I'm talking about my 7hp Craftsman twin cylinder air compressor :D :jester
Re: Rebuild time - threw 2 rods! ('79ProwlerOrange)
Jeez, Shannon, I was just about to get all upset for you. Then you said one hour & I thought MAN is that guy talented. Then you said it was an air compressor & I didn't know whether to laugh or roll eyes. :D

Dave, after all I've done for you, man?! Sent you the template for mounting the rear "Corvette" letters on your car; helped you figure out what radiator and shroud you have, etc.... :D
Go ahead, dock me points. Thank you sir, may I have another?!!!! :jester
The worst part is, I was planning to really fire up the compressor this weekend to start ripping the radiator support, front suspension and such off the car for the "Big Winter Project (tm)" Lots of sandblasting to do, sanding and grinding of the old rust, and no doubt many a bolt that will require the impact wrench to get 'em loose.
