So the compression check will have to wait, at this point in the game this car is starting to test. I have multiple little issues driving me crazy at the moment and preventing me from getting the compression check needed to help with my issue. I know I bought a project car but when you.have around 30 miles on a build by the previous owner and have a bunch of little problems it's starts to get you.frustrated. Fear no I will not let this car break me.
I think my next course of action is to pull the motor that way I couldIlook the engine, flywheel and trans over myself and see why I am having the issues that I am.
Sorry if this went off topic but it seems there is a Domino effect going on with this car.
if that is a flat top piston everything the guy who sold it to you said is suspect. including that cam. and gen 6 L29 heads would be your best bet. rarely used on corvettes as vette big blocks never have flat pistons. that is a truck piston. L29 is a small chamber truck head. probably the cheapest and easiest to find big block head. georges auto parts in bridgeport. 150 bucks a head. they look different on the front. that pipe plug is not there. so a purist will know it is not a Mark 4 head.

thanks Derek,, I will pull the heathat some point and update this thread.
I texted with the prior owner of the car and he confirmed that it does indeed have a domed piston so that question has been answered.
I also told him I was getting a tri power for this car and that intrigued him because he just bought an (American Graffittii) cloned 55 Chevy. He wants to trade the Oval ports on the 55 with my rectangular port heads, 850 Holley and Winter intake manifold. Since my heads were allegedly just redone by this what could I possibly get for the carb, intake and head combo?
the heads are worth 200 to 1000. the 850 holley is worth 100 to 500. the winters intake? 100 to 1000. depending on if OE intake, and which one. his iron? oval ports ar worth 50 bucks to 600. do you still have the borescope? look again and post pics of pistons. you could also do an oil change and stick borescope up thru drain hole and see if 2 or 4 bolt.

Derek, he told me it was an original Winters intake but I guess the only way to confirm it is to check the date code on the underside of the intake.
I am also curious as to why you want me to reckeck the piston top?. I can definately do that but it's a check $20 scope from Amazon and a bit hard to tell what I am looking at.
because you see flat pistons and he says domes. one of you is correct... the domed piston that is 12;1 has a point on top. serious point. possible with piston up you are seeing one side of the dome. try looking with piston down lower in the bore.

A cam of that size with a flat top piston in a 427 probably would even start......if it did, it wouldn't idle.....it would have something 120psi compression or less.....so a flat top is just not feasible with an open chamber.
The trade is a good one.....do some searches on E-Bay for your parts and get an idea where they are at on the market......Tracy Corvette is always the high end for reference as well as Heartbeat City Camaro parts.
unless those oval heads are name brand aluminum i don't see a fair trade. plus, you may get pissed at the tripower setup and wish you hadn't traded away an intake and carb along with the rectangle heads. straight trade rect for ovals? maybe. but keep the intake and carb. they will work on oval heads. what is casting number and date on intake?

Derek I don't have any casting numbers but I could get them for you, I have read that certain Winters intakes demand more money than others.
As far at the trade value I would definately.need money on top of the trade bit I am a nostalgic guy and kind of want to hold onto the intake if I can.
Cylinder head wise I am thinking that an aluminum piece may be a better option than cast iron.
Jebby from what I understand the po is a mechanic so I would hope he would know what type of piston he used, hope being the key word. I will let you guys know.
he may well know exactly what is in there. he may well know it is crank, rods and pistons from a 78 454 pick up truck. OTOH most likely it is what he says and you and the cheap borescope saw the piston top wrong.

I know for a fact I had issues seeing the piston top and tend to believe you and the po that it is indeed a raised dome piston.
