Just picked up a 78 Silver Anniversary. It's been sitting 20 years. Anyways, I put a battery in it and noticed the negative cable had a small extra lead. I'm thinking this isn't factory for my vehicle?
My guess is that it's been replaced with a cable from a different model GM and not a parts store replacement. The factory style ring terminal is what makes me think that instead of it being a generic parts store replacement.
My guess it was replaced with a GM or Delco replacement part.
I purchased a positive cable decades ago for my 77 from the dealer.
It also has the additional pigtail.
It will be removed at the time of installation if that ever happens.

Don't you have the junction connector in the battery compartment?
