Default 1970 Engine Options

First, my apologies as this is another crate vs rebuild thread. I have been around engines a good bit, however the Corvette platform is very new to me, so sorry if any of the questions are not too well thought out.

I am working on making a 1970 Corvette that was given to me a little more reliable and fun to drive. It has in it was I believe is a 350 that is old and tired and has many leaks here and there. After chatting with a few local, highly recommended engine builders, to redo this engine and get it back to about 350HP they are both saying around 4k. One of them mentioned a crate engine to drop in might be cheaper and more bang for the buck, as I will be removing and replacing the engine myself. The current engine is non numbers matching, so nothing is lost with a crate in that regard.

So I started looking at something like this, on Summit racing, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mll-bp3501ctc1

My main concerns are will it fit, and will be it enough to be a sporty fun driver. I know I can get a drop base air cleaner and it already has a small drop on top of a Holley 650 DP. Based on my current height that seems like that carb and air cleaner are way up there.

I know there are many threads on this topic, but could not find much about this engine in particular and fitment. I am hoping to stay under 6k for engine and accessories if possible. Then, I am planning on another 2k for headers and side pipes, as the current ones are not too nice looking any longer.

Why don’t you go with this one? All of your current accessories will bolt on and fit if you stick with the existing intake, carb and air cleaner. Your clutch, fuel pump, etc will all bolt on and you’ll get a nice upgrade.

Something like that would be a great fit. I was trying to to get an intake and carb in one shot, but that might not be the best route.

My intake is kind of questionable, as it is for a spreadbore carb and the Holley 650 dp on it is on its last legs. I had a friend rebuild it already, but several of the plugs had to be epoxied over due to dripping on the front and back bowls. So it's probably due for a replacement and most carbs offered would require an adapter since they are square bore it seems.

So I could source and intake and carb that will fit under the hood and still be right around that first engine. I'm guessing there is a recommended intake and carb that will match that engine. The car has a turbo 350 so I will need to address the converter stall and flexplate so I might as well have it gone over while all is apart.

Thanks for the input.

A lot of aftermarket intakes come with bolt spacing for spread bore as well as square. You should be fine with whichever carb you've got.
