Default Window won't roll up fully

I recently changed the window felts and bumpers on my power window driver's door, and now my window won't roll up all the way. I tried moving the bumpers but it didn't make a difference. It rolls up and hard stops about an inch shy of the top.

Any suggestions?

From what I've heard, getting the placement for the window takes a lot of time. I had all the mechanisms in my doors changed out one time because it was every bit corroded, 1.2 grand later and I have a healthier door but, just like you, my window did not fit correctly and he said that he would charge me an unnecessarily large amount to get it done because of the effort it would take to correct it.

The only thing I changed was the outside felt and the bumpers. It rolled up fully prior to that. I might try taking them out completely and seeing if that's it but wanted to see if people had any wisdom to offer.

I will be following this, as I need that wisdom. My windows haven't rolled up correctly for about 8 years lol.

Just found this that might help. you'll have to skip like 2 to 3 minutes as he talks about his convertible top instead of the instruction.

I recently changed my felts and have the same issue, over the last couple weeks its slowly getting better. I leave the windows up when not in use to help "Form" them.. havent tried anything like talc power as it would make things a mess if wet but wondered if there was anything I could treat the glass with to make it more stick against the felt and reduce the friction... I also have not yet tried a hair dryer to reform them. Its NOT your window adjustment as others keep assuming. You may get the gap between the glass and seal to have less pressure which would help but you will likely mess up your closed window alignment if you play with that. I had to adjust mine as I installed new weatherstripping all the way around and it made no difference on the effect from the new felt seals.

I used this to adjust my window position when closed.. However, it didnt help with the new felts providing too much pressure and friction against the glass.

the front and drivers side forward gaskets are a bitch, but there is a rounded clip that goes around the gasket this is very important it pulls the gasket in, if that is on next step is th adjust window slide in or out for that you must remove door panel there are 2 adjustment bolts to adjust window

Default PITA window adjust

Did a complete door rebuild on 78 coupe a few years ago. New weatherstripping, felts, pads, track-wheels, one new motor, clean everything. Adjusting the window to fit took lots of fiddling. Adjusting a single gap adjustment anywhere results in a compromised fit elsewhere. After years of felt wear and rubber compression the new outside window felts are thicker and tend to push the glass too far inboard. With everything loose I grabbed the top of the glass and wiggled it outboard as far as it would go and tightened it back up. You would know if you’re having the same problem if the window still goes up all the way with the door open.
If doesn’t go up all the way with door open it is an easier adjustment. Loosen the front and rear stop screws, move the window up until it seats in the weatherstrip, and tighten back up. Your AIM will diagram the exact screw location at the top of the window track. If this compromises the front or rear gap you will to readjust there as well. I noticed the guy in the video still had a gap after 30min of adjusting, and he never did show exactly what he did.
If adjusting the up stops throws other things off, you might have to do multiple rounds of adjustments all around. Or, put window handling suction cups on the glass with all the screws loose, then tighten them up after getting the glass in position with the door closed.
The new outside window felt was so difficult to adjust for, I left the old one in on the other side.

B is the up stop. D&E for inboard/outboard

Yeah, it goes up to the same position regardless of being open or closed. I'll try the stop screws, thanks.

Mine did not go up all the way regardless at first but now after a few weeks it does go up all the way with the door open.

I swapped-out my window felt bumpers last yr. I had read somewhere to use caution on which vendor was selling them and country of origin.

It seems there is a slight difference in the metal that holds the felt. More precisely, the angle and size of the "tab" that fits in the hole of the door.
I hope you kept your old original GM units for comparison. Look real close. The after-market is different.

Laying the new & old side-by-side, you can take a Dremel Tool with a cone shape stone and modify for correct fitment.
I had the inner door panel off. What should have been a 30 second job turned into a 30 minute job.

Unfortunately I tossed the originals. They definitely looked different.

Hurry!
Go to the local landfill and start ripping open garbage bags the same color as yours.
How many could there possibly be, right?

Plan "B".

Compare the new felts to the passenger side door felts. That would require inner door panel removal though.

For what its worth, my drivers side new felt is still not right. The felt allows the glass to strike the weather stripping harshly. Needs tweaking again.
Usually final adjustment can be done with a really small box-end wrench when the window is down.
But in your case, some grinding on the felt bracket is needed.
