Well. I told you I was going to start stripping the paint. So here is what it looks like as of today. Damn is she ugly!
Now I have a couple of questions.
1)what am I doing wrong? anything obvious?
2) how do I get the badges and marker lights off. I was going to do that today but I didnt want to break them so I figured I would ask tonight.
3) how do you know how far to sand?
4) Do I have to take the bumper off? or do I dare attempt to remove the paint on the car?
5) How am I doing so far ?
Thanks for the tips. Dont be to harsh on me, I have never done anything to make my car look better so I hope it all works out in the end. (which needs to be in less then 3 months so I can go to the corvette challenge , Not looking like this :D )
Now i know why you put the cobra in the sig. looks like its going ok. the emblems are held on by a little nut on the underside of the body. its not really a nut, but i dont remember its name. check out ZIP and i think mid america have pics of the emblem studs, and nut things. i bet mine was 10 time uglier during the bodywork process. :D
you got alot to do before the next challenge, good luck  the front and rear crossflags should have nuts on the back side and the side marker lights too.
Actually I have only spent about 10 hours on the body. I spent about another 10-15 on just the hood. I will try to spend a few hours on it during the week and about 10 hours per weekend. Then my father is going to paint it when he gets back from Florida. We plan on putting the primer on. Then wet sanding. Then the paint. Then wet sanding. and then the clear coat. and then i think we have to sand again  Im sure it will be worth it tho. It will be amazing if I can finish this project by April :smash: :chevy
I've had a couple of friends who stripped their paint down to the fiberglass while repainting. They gell coated somewhere in the process before painting. Does that also apply to Quickvet or anyone else should they get down to the glass?
If you want to do a quality paint job, remove everything that you can from the body...ie. marker lights, mirrors, weatherstripping, all metal trim. The difference between an ok paint job and a great one is hours and hours of prep work. Definately take the bumpers off...paint them off of the car and then pu them back on when the car is done. If you don't the crack between the bumper and the body will be a very ugly place. So, what color are you going to paint it??

No need for gel coat, Your car has never had it. Use a "good" sealer. I am taking a 71 all the way to the glass now. I only have a couple spots left to do. I have a pretty nasty cold and have to work till Monday I hope to post some more pics of the car next week.
I've got a quick stupid question. With all the sanding that you do, how do you not go through the gelcoat? Is the gelcoat that hard that it isn't easy to sand right through?
