Default PosI Case Rebuild

This is the gear out of my posi case. Is the surface shown supposed to be perfectly mirror smooth, or are the shallow circular grooves normal? (they look deeper in the picture then they are) The other gear has a small pit in this surface but there is no sharp edge at the top so I don't think it's really an issue. Also the shims have discoloration. Is this a problem?

The slight grooves you are referring to is a normal condition.

As far as the shims go, as long as they are flat, you should be fine but if you have any distortion, best to replace them.

What shape are the clutch plates in? Be sure to use steel plates without “snowflakes”.

Thanks 69L88,
The clutch plates look OK but dont know how worn they are? I guess I have to measure their thickness. I was told they should be 69 thousandths. Why no snowflake plates?
Thanks

Do mic your plates. I try to avoid anything less than 0.067” but if you find one or two slightly less (0.0665”), I would re-use. Just carefully inspect the plate condition.

The snowflake are prone to breakage. Also avoid carbon fiber.

Thanks for the good advice. Will do... Any particular brand of plates you recommend?
