I purchased a set of aftermarket aluminum wheels with the black centers from Ekler's that require lug centric balancing for my 1978 C3. I understand that I can purchase hub centric aluminum or plastic rings to use when mounting/balancing these aftermarket wheels that will eliminate the need for the cone adapter while balancing. Can anyone tell me what size rings I should purchase? What brand? My vehicle has the original stock wheels that are a bit old and pitted. Thanks!
The C3 hub diameter is 70.6mm, but I don't see how that affects the need for a cone on the balancer unless it's also 70.6mm. The outer diameter of the rings you need will be determined by the hub inner diameter of your wheels.
I had a pair of hub rings made at motorsport-tech.com.
I got some custom plastic ones, the idea is for the ring to hold the wheel centric until you tighten it down. After it's tight ideally it shouldn't move(Michigan roads LOL), also why you clean the wheel and rotor surface. Still ultimately that's why tires are made of rubber, ever check the run-out on a tire?
Don't get me started on that motorsport place! I still rem how the owner laughed and didn't give a **** bout his shitty product!
I bought a digital calliper to measure the bore of the wheel. First bought plastic hub centric rings. When I rotated the tires this year I used aluminum ones as they are reusable. Bought them off Amazon.
