Default Doug's side pipes insert noise level

I have doug's side pipes with the max-flo inserts, I was curious of the nose level so I put a decibel meter app on my phone.

383 -11.3:1, XR282 cam

20" from the exit

1000 RPM IDLE 99 DB
2000 RPM 120 DB

So now I know. I live in the sticks, so it's not a big deal, but it's probably loud enough to annoy your neighbors if you live in town. Has anyone test the other inserts available like the STS spiral baffles?

Are you referring to the high flow inserts? I have the high flow inserts they are fairly tame while cruising in the 1500-2000 rpm range.
They definitely get rowdy as the rpm increases.
My combo is 421 stroker, Comp 236/242 - 110 cam.

I'm using the high flow inserts, I'm not sure I would call them tame 1500-2000 rpm.

I have the high flow (middle picture) in my 69 427/390 mostly stock car. They are pretty loud. I thought I might be losing some hp due to the inside pipe being small. I went to the max flow and I THINK I could feel the increased hp.
But, just too loud. Harley loud. I was afraid that I was going to get a ticket every time I drove it. 1 neighbor did complain. I went back to the high flow mufflers as the best compromise.

Lol you guys must have terrible hearing...I had the middle Dougs and I got rid of the side pipes all together and went full exhaust with some Borlas Atak. Way to loud to enjoy on any drive longer than 30 mins. They look awesome and are great for around town driving but any distance driving....no way.

I went with the max flow because I really like the sound of a nice engine but if it is way to loud I can always go to the middle one, from what Doug's headers told me was that they are no longer making the loudest version.

I had the middle mufflers from Doug's in my sidepipes and I thought they sounded perfect. My current car with Hooker long tube headers and dual exhausts with turbo mufflers doesn't sound anywhere as nice to me.

I'm building a 6.0ls, 10.0:1 CR, 233/239 .615 111lsa cam, which will be breathing through Hooker 4" sidepipes. I'm cutting the sbc flange off the headers and welding on the LS flanges.

I have basically the same setup in another car, running through a full 2.5" exhaust and Flowmaster 40s, and it's pretty damn loud. Needless to say it should be pretty rad through sidepipes.
