With 500 HP, I am presuming you’ve got a high lift cam. If that is indeed the case, you will want a high zinc content oil to deal with all of the higher valve train loads that come with the higher lift cams.
Do read the sticky on oils. There is a ton of research/experience/information available there. I have a 500HP 427 with solid lifters and I run Brad Penn (PennGrade1) 20w50. It’s ZDDP level is 1500 ppm.
Seems that Rotella and Delo are the choice and Walmart was the best price! They have the zinc.

while on the oil aisle, look at Motorcraft Diesel ... its label actually tells how much P ... Where P goes, Zn typically follows ... price is right too.
You want a High zinc oil, ZDDP, with at least 1200 PPM in my opinion, with 1,000 PPM ZDDP, being the bare minimum and too low for me.
If you can find a synthetic oil with high zinc content that is the way to go all day long and hands down over any conventional oil of similar zinc content. In Europe, I would imagine your best bet is Castrol Edge which I use in all my cars and power equipement including my 10C6Z06 and 78 C3 355 L-82 BUT with a roller cam, 0W-40 European Formula. If you can find Valvoline Racing, synthetic or conventional Racing oil, this oil will be a choice as well, either synthetic preferably or conventional if synthetic is not available.
Diesel oils would not be a choice, in my opinion, for obvious reasons (diesel engines are very different than gas) unless that oil is the only one available, regardless of the price.

Panic has diesel powered fishing boats pulling up to his fish store daily, just barter some fish heads for some spare diesel oil.
Seriously, I forecast fishing will be forced to stop in the next decade or so, too many regulations, laws, green lobbies trying to **** the whole industry...
I forecast the oceans and seas will become a huge aquarium where to see and dont touch gonna be the rules.
i can not argue against a high ZDDP oil for a non-roller cam motor. If however - you are using a roller cam - I see NO reason to use non-synthetic. These days there really isn't much of a price difference between dino oil and full synthetic, and there really isn't anything dino based oil does better than full synthitic - with the exception of being available with higher ZDDP levels.
I've attached a link to a lengthy discussion from fourm member 540Rat - I think he's covered the issue quite well.
