Default Shifter Stop adjustment - Auto

I did a search and came up empty.....Hopefully someone can help.

I have a 1980 L48 / Auto. I noticed that when I push the button on the shifter to shift from park and go to drive, The shifter goes past drive or in my cars case (3) doesn't have a (D) and hits the detent stop in 2nd. is there a way to adjust this? The first drive of the car I was shocked to see such high RPM just cruising around then looked and saw was in 2nd as the shifter went right past 3rd and stopped at 2nd.
thanks

These are the shift cable adjusting instructions from my 1972 Shop Manuel. 1972 used a Turbo 400. I believe your 80 has a Turbo 350, but I think the adjusting instructions are the same.
