I’m working on a 72 vette with a 383 stroker a hei distributor was installed and I can start the car (the car was a frame off restoration everything is brand new wires motor interior everything is new nothing old was used) but how would I wire it I ran a wire from the ignition switch on fuse block to distributor than I ran a wire from the pink wire on the ignition to the distributor and it still won’t turn off tried a few more wires and still didn’t work what am I wiring wrong or is wired wrong

Run a 12 gauge wire from the “IGN” tab on the fuse block to the 12v side of the HEI, that’s it, that’s all you need. Take the old wires that went to the original coil and distributor and cover them individually with shrink tube and/or electrical tape to absolutely eliminate the chance of them grounding out on something (they will still be hot). Tuck them away out of sight and enjoy your HEI.

You need to run it to a wire that is keyed on. Acc. on the fuse box does this. Test it with a meter or test light and verify that it has no power with the key off and 12v with the key on.
If the power is cut from the "BAT" terminal the car will shut off. It has to. You are running the wire to the wrong lead...power on all of the time.
You also need a 12 gauge wire for this. Many vendors carry this......it is important as anything smaller will heat up and compromise the life of the wire.
Why are you having to do this on a frame off car that everything is new on?

You can do what it says above or you can pull the connector from the bulkhead connector that the original wire to the coil is attached to and replace it with a 12 gauge wire. It will require a connector made to go into the bulkhead connector but it is the cleanest way to do it and you eliminate the old wire in the process.

This is the best way BTW.....but one that most won't tackle.....
If you know what you are doing.....you can change the wire and blade out in the bulkhead connector in about 20 minutes and run it to the HEI.

The accessory bus goes dead while key is turned to the crank position.
