Default '79 trailing arm picture

So the 79 has been under the knife for about 2 months now, car was in overall decent shape but the suspension was shot, every bushing, spring, etc. Front is done, tubular arms, borgeson box, all new bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, shocks, springs, etc. Just starting the rear, the bushings were shot and what a treat is was cutting those arms out with the Sawzall lol. When I look at the head of the trailing arm it doesn't look square to my eyes (old ones mind you). It almost looks like the two sides are not straight to each other and that perhaps the arm got twisted at some point? Can someone comment back if this looks normal to you?

thanks!!!
Dean

almost looks like a parallelogram not a box..

Front looking good

To me it looks as though someone didnt know what they were doing when they replaced the bushings a couple decades ago....

OR.....

Like you said--- it was damaged insome type of accident,

It is fairly rusty, but could be heated/reshaped by you....

or if you have the cash---buy new trailing arms and rebuild the bearings/grease seals/E-brake shoes/etc

OR

buy a complete new or rebuilt trailing arm ready to install.

I would definitely get new trailing arms......the ones I got from Corvette Mods a couple of months ago are high quality, powder coated and have the bushing installed....$200 ea.

Thanks guys appreciate the feedback. I was looking for a good excuse to just get new stripped arms and build new on them and for 400 bucks, sold.

you should look at some offset trailing arms while you are at it...It'll give you some extra room for some juicy tires

The arms may still be good, you will have to clean and blast them to see. They are just c channel over lapped and welded. There wasn't special about them in the sense of a neat part. If they are not bent or rotted they are good. Now if you just want new arms that's a different story but stay away from C-mods or at least look in the vendor feedback page. USA made arms are about $200 from most reliable vendors.
