Could someone give me a VERY simplified wiring guide or simple way to bench test the ammeter gauge on my 68. As of now, its stuck all the way to the right, wether the ignition is on or off, or engine is running
Re: How to bench test my 68 ammeter guide (MELVIN)
Assume its broken then you have a perfect opportunity to replace it with
a voltmeter. First electrical thing I did on my car was get rid of the
useless amperage meter. In some cars those things are just plain dangerous.

All you need to do is check with an ohmmeter. If the circuit is open, the guage will not function. You can open the guage, unwind the coil, measure the length of the wire, rewind using same guage wire. I rebuilt mine and it works great.

Melvin, also check the circuit. The black wire going to the guage has a fusible link by the firewall then it becomes Orange and runs to the solenoid. There is another fusible link a few inches from that connection. The B/W wire goes from the guage to the horn relay and has a fusible link close to it. Make sure you have voltage at the guage.
