Default Crankshaft Pilot Bearing Alignment

Any preference as to which end of this Tranny's Pilot Bearing goes into the Crankshaft first?

End A

End B

Thank you in advance.

End A towards the waterpump is what I would do.

I would put end A in first . Side B has a slight tapper to it which helps guide the trans shaft into pilot bearing if disc is off center some.

How far in does it go? Or just keep tapping till it stops?

I would consider running a solid oilite bushing instead of that one. If you must though Side A goes to the crank while Side B to the input shaft.
One like this is best. https://www.5speeds.com/cart/index.p...&product_id=99

It goes in flush with the edge of the crankshaft

Back in the day we used a pilot bearing from a GM diesel instead of the pilot bushing and it worked well. Nowadays the available bearings all seem to be made in China and of suspect quality. Most engine builders seem to be going back to bushings. The advantage of a bearing doesn’t outweigh the risk of failure.
