Default less cursing, dag nabbit !

Seems there's more & more blatant cursing in both C3 tech & C3 general; most of it by a few regulars. I know just about anything goes in OT P & R; is that where C3 is destined ?

A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE:

I WOULD like it if my grandson and grand daughter could read G/PG-rated threads in the C3 Tech and C3 General Forums while we work together on my/his/her Vette. You Gals and Guys have lots of knowledge to share!

NOT staged....she wanted to help...so she is installing shorty headers on my '34 truck street rod engine

In today’s society it’s all about the individual’s rights.
There is very little common decency anymore.
Only those who want to follow the rules will and there is little to no consequences for those who don’t.

You remind me a lot of St. Peter.

Great write-up on your TH700R4 Conversion, too.

Well, ya know, I guess I have been guilty of using a few what I would think of as "Low level" swear words. But I do avoid the "Heavy" swear words if that makes any sense.
Truth is, for most of us this language is part of everyday life. If your children have never heard any of these words before, I commend you for your ability to protect your kids from the world.
Not that I would do the same.

Since this isn't P/R I won't reply to several of the previous post......or possibly cause a ruckus.

I will give an example....anyone remember as a child how sweet and juicy Red Delicious Apples were back in the '60s.
They aren't, anymore. But, impressionable children have never tasted those apples.
They think today's apples are the "norm".

Actually I don't protect them from the World. They hear and see profanity every day .
It's more to do with them gaining knowledge from threads the CF provides. That's why I included a couple pics of my grand daughter actually helping/learning the right way from CF members.

Maybe she and my grandson can have my Vette ready for the High School Graduation.....and they can read through your threads which taught me how to work on a Corvette........

Hi DG, nice to have a helper. Funny that you included the post from Alan 71. When I first read the OP's thread, the first thing I thought of was our friend Alan 71. He's a true gentleman and never used foul language, yes, he could get a little sarcastic at times, but always had good things to say about others. Sorry he decided to leave us, but I respect his decision.

I am an offender of the swear, but I believe it to be sometimes the only way to emphasize a point enough or accurately describe something. I am pretty civil about my verbiage most of the time, but a few of my posts are geared toward the average guys struggles to be and maintain being in this hobby while being surrounded by people whose only goal is to create strife and bring people down. These unsavory folks will hide behind their podium when any commentary is made toward their behavior......I will not back down to this......and will reply with expletives to make sure that the point is clearly made.
I use the word **** a lot.....I think anyone who has been in this hobby long enough will agree that sometimes that is the only word that accurately describes the woeful garbage that we come across in our travels.
When I was young I read a lot of books......I was reading adult level novels by age 10....(Mostly by Clive Cussler due to my fascination with ships) and they had all kinds of off color descriptions and swear words in them......but it is an adult book, written for adults......and I believe that most of us here are adults. Even so....my 10 year old self just dismissed it and though I read these books, it was still expected of me to never say anything like that until I was much older....(17-18). I turned out just fine.
If a 4 year old child is reading a tech thread and can understand F-bombs.....you have one smart 4 year old with a whip attention span. And I would expect any parent/grandparent or guardian would skim over the content before letting a child read a thread here........there is much innuendo and the occasional hot female photo.....off color funnies, etc. Would a 10 year old just hop on here and start reading threads? How many would that be.....and if they could absorb the info then they can get past the rest......
Anyway, I feel I keep it fairly clean...so do the others here....and believe the context of the thread is very important in this issue....I have been attacked here a few times (in fact just recently).....and simply will not back down from it, I am cut from a pretty raw grain will tell all know-it-alls and pansies exactly how I feel. Has nothing to do with my rights either.
Just remember, one right everyone has is to keep scrolling........plenty of content here for everyone. A lot of terrific people here who come from many walks of life.......and that is the only way I would want it.

I think sometimes when people post for help, they are already very frustrated from trying to figure out the problems on their own.
They need a place to vent or get acknowledge that theyre on the right path, and that the hard work will worth it. So they use colorful language to express their rage haha. Never directed at anyone its just casual talk.
Like we can all agree the freakin door and hood latch mechanisms keeping cars locked is absolute bs. bleeding the brakes or going crazy trying to track down a weird thump/click after theyve gone thru everything twice lol,
Build threads are probably the most interesting and engaging things to read thru, so youll probably read people express their frustrations back and forth,

If its still an issue, you can probably find a plugin/extension, to add on to your web browser, that filters out bad words.

edit: look-up "profanity filter"

Hey ebbnflow, I appreciate your sentiment. I also appreciate the thoughts of doorgunner. I’m involving my granddaughter in the ’68 resto when she’s visiting (lives 2 hours away) too and have shown her the C3 forum where I get lots of helpful advice, and it’s such a pleasure to share this hobby with her (and flyfishing!).

Forgive me, but since this is a thread where different points of view have been expressed so I’ll share a few of mine. First of all, I’m not a prude and I’m a long, long way from perfect. I’ve lived in several cities including Seattle, NYC, Chicago, Richmond, Minneapolis. I served as pres/ceo of a large Aon company. Along with 5 partners, I’ve started and sold 2 companies to large pe firms. So, I’ve lived and worked in a lot of different environments. I let loose every once in a while, but seldom, if ever, throw f-bombs and would never use deity derogatorily (out of respect for others and my religious beliefs). A few thoughts:

I work with companies like Canon, Polaris, Ford, JLR, Electrolux, Samsung, John Deere, Navistar, and several others. None of them would tolerate course language in their headquarter environments. Why? (BTW, I know that colorful language might be used in ‘private’ meetings, but never in a more ‘public’ meeting. Why?).

I’ve found that people I work with who use colorful language respect the fact that I don’t and stop using the language and discover they don’t need to use it to get their points across. Why?

Some say that using ‘tough’ language helps them make their point. Why?

What parent would allow their child to say ‘Mom, that was an f***ing good dinner’? Why?

Anyone with a room temperature IQ can launch all sorts of strong curse words/phrases. IMO it takes a much higher Emotional IQ to demonstrate respect for others, and self-respect, to keep language ‘cleaner’.

But these are just my opinions. Others have a perfect right to do/think otherwise. Unfortunately, I’ve had to use the ‘ignore’ function on the CF with about a dozen members (mostly C7 and C8 forums) who lob f-bombs and gd’s, jc’s, etc. regularly. I’m sure they’re really nice people with a lot of good to share – but I choose not to put up with the language.
I mean no disrespect to others, and I hope for the same. Best, Paul

Good point Hopper.
I spend much time over at the AACA Forum where members can become just as frustrated as Corvette owners but somehow manage to get their point across without swearing at each other. Perhaps they have a little more respect for one another, it would just seem very out of place there. Same over at the Vintage T-bird forum. GM Truck forum, on the other hand, can get like a bunch sailors on leave.
I remember when Troy first started the CF, swearing was not part of it then and everyone seemed to be fine with that. Not sure when or why it changed. The standards are truly varied on all the auto based forums.
Oh, and I own a bar downtown so I hear it everyday but I can still make myself understood without cursing at a patron or a brother here on the forum.
Cheers, Greg

So I grew up in the UK. I had a Kenyan roommate. (White guy, blond, son of diplomat) We are on one of those interminable drives the length of England. London to Newcastle. Like 7 hours.

He's teaching me SWAHILLI swear words. He's speeding like the dickens in a POS Morris 'America'. In the rain and fog. (dumb kids BOTH!)

We get pulled over by VERY POLITE police for doing 80+. He has a Kenyan plate on the back and a 'Visitor to Britain' placard on the back.

John says to me "Don't say a damn word!"
The cop is trying to communicate politely... John is shrugging his shoulders like he doesn't understand.
John is saying in Swahilli " Your mother wears army shoes" and such. I'm biting a huge hole in my bottom lip! I'm dying in the passenger seat!
Finally the cop gives up...He points to the speedo and says 60! (at 60 on the dial).
John says " Your cows are bow-legged"

The cops let us go.

Moral of the story...If you're going to swear on this forum....do it in a language that NOBODY understands!

Cheers Unkahal

Da man do know how to sing da blues. As for all of the other tripe in this thread; this is why I never participate in any form of "social media". Has this forum become a social media platform?
