Can anyone tell me whether the L79 muffler system (standard) has 2" in and 2" out or is it 2.5" in and 2" and 2" out? installing (I hope) new Magnaflo louder exhaust but I just looked at the L79 exhaust and the side in from the engine looks bigger, but I cannot get a good measurement because of the oval bend "supplied by the factory". Just tried to measure again with the calipers and when measured right at the inlet, where it is the post round it is about 2.18 inches. Thanks in advance

Just a guess: 2.18 seems much closer to 2" than to 2.5".
Can you get a flexible tape measure around the pipe at the same location?
If you can, divide the measurement you get by 3.14 to get an approx. measurement of the pipe diameter.
Compare the caliper measurement to the tape measurement.
( I THINK the above info would get very close to the pipe diameter of either 2" or 2.5")
Let us know the answers.

I ordered stock replacement 2.5" mufflers from corvette central a couple of years ago and they are 2.5" in and 2" out. See description here:

Thanks, just starting a search for these, or reasonable facsimile. Proper inlet offset to the side and middle of the unit exit.

Trying to get my head around the purpose of 2 1/2 inch exhaust pipe. If the 2 1/2 inch pipe turns into a 2 inch pipe, then out the back, the net effect is a 2 inch pipe.
You can have a 3 inch exhaust but if it ends with a 1 inch pipe, the 3 inch does nothing. What am I missing?
