Default C3 alternator brackets possibly needed?

Someone in the C4 forums recommended I consider the C3 alternator brackets. If I do a search, I see thousands of pictures, but don't know for sure what the correct ones are supposed to be. I have a big red bible book for my C4 L98, but not a C3.

If someone could please post links or actual pictures of what the factory small block alternator brackets are supposed to look like, I'd appreciate it.

My other thread, if you care, is here:

Thanks friends!

Dave the only cross over that I know of to C-4 is the 'Tuning fork' alternator bracket from the 82's to the 84's.

Upper is a "brace". Looks like there are several styles for C3 (1968-1982).

that returns 5 pages of results. I’m looking for the specific upper brace that was used by others in the photos.

Hello Dave1959,

You might want to be a bit more specific regarding the brackets that you are looking for. On C3's up to 1974 or 75 they had two sizes of engines available, the "Small Blocks" and the "Big Blocks". Then you need to know the "type" of water pump, short or long style as this too makes a difference.

I have a C3 and it is a 427 Corvette with totally different brackets. I would go to ZIP (you have been there done that, sorry) or PARAGON or any large Corvette supplier and look at the various brackets and see what looks the closest. I removed all the belts from my C3 and replaced it with a Serpentine Conversion which is cleaner on a Big Block. The brackets used on the Big blocks are pretty heavy duty as they were expected to see lots of punishment during their lifespan.

If all else fails you might look at March Performance and check out their mounting brackets, there are others that make them as well. My alternator mount on my 427 is really ruggedly built by March Performance and uses a turn-buckle to adjust the belt tension. The only negative with March performance is their Powder coating is atrocious and comes off in sheets at a time. I have never seen this poor a quality of powder coating. If I did it again I would polish them versus the powder coating.

I hope that this helps you narrow down your search and that you find the "right" bracket for your application.

No way the upper bracket would work unless you plan on moving the power steering reservoir.

There was one user that posted photos in your linked thread and it was a turnbuckle which is not a C3 part.

What are you trying to put it on and what pulleys are you using?
