One of my other projects has a trashed driver's seat, so I decided to bite the bullet and go with Corbeau after doing a lot of research. Even though it's an SUV, it has a narrow seat section thanks to a large trans tunnel and it sounds like almost every seat robs us of headroom. Sound familiar?
Anyway, I was wondering why I didn't look at fixed back seats for the 78. Since my car is a Pace Car, it has the 79-82 fold-forward buckets. I'd consider doing just the driver's seat so that I can still store stuff - if I ever need to. These seats don't really recline either, so it's not a huge loss in comfort, just storage access.
Has anyone used the Evolution X? It has a relatively small base (2.5" vs 3.5" in the A4) but it seems like with shaving the A4 would be the same height.
I'm 6'2 and torso tall, so I'm very concerned about headroom. The stock seats, albeit with fresh foam, already have me dangerously close to the glass roof panels and I do have cranium-to-glass interference on harsh bumps.
I'm also wondering if there's anyone out there who can confirm whether or not the A4 with shaved bases still loses headroom over the stock seats.
I have the A4's with shaved drivers seat and it does make a difference. I am mounting them directly to the floor for maximum head room. With the recliner all the way against the bulkhead, I fit, barely, and I am 6'6". If I didn't have the tilt steering column I doubt I would be able to work the foot controls. These seats fit just as well as the stock ones.
