Default 74 Door Jamb Switch Wiring

Yesterday, I was laying under my steering wheel cleaning and lubing up my hood release handle and cable. In the process, I'm sure I moved a few wires out of my way (battery was disconnected). Today I connected the battery back up and when I shut the drivers side door, the interior lights stayed on. While sitting in the seat with the door closed, I jiggled a few wires down there and the interior lights went off. Figuring I did something while under the dash yesterday, I disconnected the battery again and looked down by the kick panel. The black wire (see picture below) slid right out from the backside of the kick panel. I removed the sill plate and kick panel so I could get a better look at behind the panel. I see a white wire connected to the switch, but do not know where the black (ground?) wire is supposed to go. I expected to find a metal female electrical connector that the black wire had slipped out of but did not. I traced this black wire and it goes into a wiring harness under the dash pad. I have searched and see a few similar threads but nothing that gives me confidence that I do not screw this up. I'm going through my AIM manual as we speak and having a hard time trying to trace it. I'm sure I'm missing this in the manual and that this is a fairly easy fix, but wanted to get the proper guidance before messing with 47+ year old wiring. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Naturally after I posted this thread, I think I may have found my answer. From what I'm reading from this thread (https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...or-1974-a.html), my black ground wire needs to be attached to the switch mounting plate. Is this correct? If so, how do I attach this properly? I do not know how bubba had it before it was jarred loose. Pictures from other cars I see have two wires going to this switch. I only have the one white one.

The black wire should be connected to the other terminal on that switch. Looks like someone has been in there before, because that blue plastic connector on the white wire isn't factory. Connect it up temporarily to check things out, then if everything works put a new connector on it. There is no grounding plate at that front jamb switch location. The mounting plate is behind the rear jamb switch. The passenger side front jamb switch only gets the one white wire attached to it. Hope this helps.

Gets weirder by the minute. The connector on the white wire that connects to the switch was loose so I cut it off and crimped on a properly sized connector. Capped off the black wire and for kicks and giggles, went ahead and reconnected the battery. The interior lights now go off when the door is closed. Everything else seems to be working properly.
