Default Cranks and Cams?

Which is better a Steel crank or a Cast crank?

Which of these are better: solid or hydraulic cam?

Still trying to learn.

Thanks

You should consider what's best for your application. For the vast majority on this forum cast cranks & hyd. cams are fine.

Forged cranks. Solid, as the cam duration moves up, then roller.

PS It looks like you are off to a good start. Do you have L-82, 4 spd. or auto.?
The mirrors look good as is!

I say this very quitely,

L-48 with Auto.

Motor was replaced a long time (at least 2 previous owners) ago with a "Hecko De Mexico" (sp) block, it is tired and oil consumption is going up. I would like a little more HP. Looking around for a motor, just have to get the Wife to agree. Looking at so many that I'm confused  ZZ4, GM 350 HO, and now with all the past posts about AR Racing Motors. Trying to keep the exterior looking original, thats why the mirror change.

Don't want to race but would like to "Smok'em" every so often, but also want something that is very drivable, Wife and I take long weekend vacations, covering 250-300 miles.

The enthusiast should build his own engine. How would you like 427/435 HP performance?

If you must have a crate motor then the GM 383 w/ more cam would do it for what you want.
