I was looking at the 1968 and 1976 fuel tanks. Curious what the major differences and why? Is the filler location (on the body) different from 1968-1977 ?
I know the frame is a little different in the back, but it doesn't appear to be different where the fuel tank sits. I have both frames in the floor in my shop side by side.
The 1968 has a fuel pickup at the bottom, the 1976 appears to have a fuel pickup at the top?
I purchased the correct fuel tank built for my year and model.
The less problems the better.
I went through Holley and purchased my new tank.
One thing to think about is if you plan to go to an EFI system in the future.
If so, purchase the new tank already set up for the EFI so you don't need to do it later.
Most new tanks can be ordered for an EFI set up or for a carburetor.
There are various difference is tanks. Even some model years have different tanks. This is because of various fuel lines and emissions items that were tried. For example my 1971 tank for a quadrajet equiped engine has a return port on the upper passenger's side, a fuel vapor port on the upper driver's side and the main fuel flow/sender unit is on bottom.
