Default Electronic Choke Question...

My cousin has an 81 4 speed. When he starts it, it does not kick down right away. Choke seems to be sticking. Any ideas /suggestion on what to do.
It's 20k, all original, he does not want to bring it to a shop/mechanic.

Appreciate any feedback!

Thanks

Default Re: Electronic Choke Question... (Ragin Bull)

It is not going to kick down right away. The electric choke has a heating element inside that will expand as it warms up and slowly opens the choke. When you pump the gas 1 time the choke should shut completely. Then when you start the engine the vacuum break should open the butterfly valve about 1/4". At this time the car is on fast idle that is controlled by the fast idel cam behind the choke and the adjustment screw that sets the idle speed. Does this answer your question?

If you don't want any chooke at all, loosen up the 3 screws on the choke housing and unwind the spring so there is no tension on the butterfly. Only if you live in Florida.
