68 Firewall Grommets
I gutted my engine compartment to paint. now I an reassembling. The speedo & tach cables just went through the big holes in the firewall with no grommets ! I purchased the correct rubber grommets with the metal tabs on them but how do you get the cables through them ???? The ends of the cables are not removable !

i remember being stuck on that also on my 68 and i think i removed the end off the tach drive cable to get it through, the reinstall and repeen the metal end, and was able to stretch the grommets for the rest, of course i could of made a slit in grommet but i guess i like the hard way

Once it's installed into the firewall, no one can tell it was split.

Ye need to split them and use vaseline on the grommet to get itnt the firewsll. It will help a lot!!,

Thanks guys......I will try slicing the rubber in the center. It seems to have metal around the perimeter with 3 tabs that hold it into the firewall hole so I can't really cut it to the outside edge !
Is my vette stock?? HAHA
